Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-rahim, Assalamualaikum readers here i am going to share what is Hajj, how to perform Hajj, How HAjj starts, what is hajj umrah and the difference between hajj and umrah.
What is Hajj –
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, the five pillars of Islam are five basic rules in Islam that all Muslim should follow.
- Imaan (Shahadah-Declaration of faith- that there is no god but Allah and prophet Muhammad is the final messenger)
- Namaz (Praying salah five times a day)
- Zakat (charity- Each year Muslim should give charity )
- Fasting (Fasting during the month of Ramadan)
- Hajj (A pilgrimage to Mecca)
Hajj is the annual pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims should make at least once in their life. Hajj is mandatory (fardh) on them who are financially and physically capable to make the journey to Mecca.
How Hajj Starts –
Muslims believe that Prophet Ibrahim was ordered by Allah to leave his wife Hajara and his son Ismail alone in the barren desert of ancient Mecca. In search of water, Hajara ran seven times between the two hills of Safa and Marwah but found nothing. Returning in despair to Ismail, she saw the baby scratching the ground with his leg and a water fountain sprang forth at the site. After this incident hajj is fardh on every Muslim, Prophet Ibrahim was entrusted by Allah to build the Kaaba. The Prophet Ibrahim and his son started the foundation of the house called Kaaba . every year prophet ibrahim along with his son came to mecca to perform Hajj. this is continued by his son after his death. Hajj performed nowadays was established by prophet Muhammad the last prophet of islam 1400 years ago.
How to perform Hajj
Followings are the steps involved in Hajj
WEAR PILGRIM’S IHRAM IN MECCA
PERFORM TAWAF IN MECCA
MAKE SA’I BETWEEN SAFA AND MARWA
GO TO MADINA AND REMAIN IN MINA FOR 1 DAY, PERFORM 5 TIME PRAYER
GO TO ARAFAT EARLY MORNING AND STAY THERE TILL SUNSET
LEAVE TO MUZDALIFAH AFTER SUNSET AND STAY THERE OVERNIGHT
AFTER FAZR AT MUZDALIFAH LEAVE TO MINA JAMRAAT AL-AQABAH AND STONE IT WITH 7 PEBBLES
COME BACK TO MECCA, MAKE TAWAF AL-IFADAH
RETURN TO MINA, SPEND THE TASHEEQ DAYS IN MINA
AGAIN COME BACK TO MECCA AND MAKE FAREWELL TAWAF
HAJJ IS COMPLETED
STEP 1- (At Mecca) Clean yourself – wear ihram garments – make intention for hajj – recite talbiyah
STEP 2- (At Mecca) Make Tawaf around the Kaaba – Pray 2 rakah behind maqam Ibrahim – make sa’i between SAFA and MARWA – Trim hair and remove ihram garments.
STEP 3- (At Madeena) Go to Mina – Put on Ihram garments again – Make intention for HAjj – Remain in Mina on 8th zul hijjah day and perform 5 prayers starting from Zuhr and ending to Fair on the day of Arafat.
STEP 4- (At Arafat) Leave for Arafat on 9th zul hijjah and stay till sunset – stay in any part of arafat – Glorify Allah repeat supplication and ask for forgiveness – Pray zuhr and Asr shortened and combined during the time of Zuhr.
STEP 5- (At Muzdalifah) Leave for Muzdalifah soon after sunset on 9th zul hijjah – Perform Maghrib and Isha prayers combined – Stay overnight and perform Fajr prayer.
STEP 6- (At Madeena) Shortly before sunrise leave for Mina – Go to Jamrat Al-Aqabah and stone it with seven pebbles – Slaughter your Sacrifice – Shave your hair or remove unwanted hair – Take off ihram Garments – All ihram restrictions are lifted.
STEP 7- (At Mecca) Return to Mecca – Make Tawaf Al-Ifadah – Make Sa’i between SAFA and MARWA – After Tawaf Al-Ifadah, all restrictions are lifted.
STEP 8- (At Madeena) Return to Mina – spend the tasheeq days in Mina – After Zuhr each day,, stone the 3 Jamarat – Leave mina on 12th zul hijjah after stoning.
STEP 9- (At Mecca) Return to Mecca and make Farewell Tawaf – the last step of Hajj.
What is Hajj Umrah? –
Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims can make at any time of the year, the meaning of Umrah is to perform Tawaf around the Kaaba and Sa’i between SAFA and MARWAH.
Difference between Hajj and Umrah –
Hajj is Performed on specific days in the month of shawwal (zul hijja) however umrah can be performed at anytime of the year.
Both are pilgrimages of islam undertaken by muslims all around the world. however the main difference is their level of importance.
